TOKYO, October 17, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – TRENDE Inc., a renewable energy company that develops and provides renewable energy solutions to residential customers in Japan, today announced a landmark partnership with Setagaya City, JERA Co., Inc., JERA Cross Inc., Alternative Technology & Products Co., Ltd., and the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo to accelerate decarbonization efforts in urban residential areas.
This strategic partnership aims to establish methods for maximizing local renewable energy production and consumption in urban areas where large-scale power generation facilities are limited. The initiative will leverage peer-to-peer (P2P) electricity trading systems and next-generation renewable energy equipment to create a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Key Highlights:
– Development of a P2P electricity trading market in Setagaya City, involving approximately 300 households
– Implementation of demand response (DR) mechanisms to optimize energy distribution
– Testing of innovative flexible solar panels and grid-interactive energy storage systems in residential settings
– Integration with digital local currency (Setagaya Pay) to incentivize market participation
“This collaboration represents a significant step towards realizing a decarbonized society in urban Japan,” said Masashi Nishio, CEO of TRENDE. “By combining our expertise in renewable energy with cutting-edge technologies and local government support, we’re creating a model for sustainable urban living that can be replicated across the country.”
The project, selected for Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Accelerating Environmental Policy in Collaboration with Municipalities” program for fiscal year 2024, will conduct proof-of-concept testing in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo to validate the effectiveness of these innovative approaches.
Each partner brings unique strengths to the initiative:
– TRENDE: P2P electricity trading systems and zero-upfront-cost solar services
– Setagaya Ward: Local government support and community engagement
– JERA & JERA Cross: Green transformation (GX) strategy and renewable energy supply
– Alternative Technology & Products: Ultra-thin, lightweight solar panels
– the University of Tokyo: Advanced research on blockchain-based energy systems
This collaborative effort aims to not only reduce carbon emissions but also stimulate local economies and strengthen community bonds through innovative energy solutions.
